St. Mary's School in Medford is celebrating Earth Day with the announcement they have received a Pacific Power Blue Sky grant of up to $150,000. The grant will fund the purchase and installment of solar panels for a building on campus that school officials describe as "solar ready."
St. Mary's says the move will help reduce the school's power bill, plus it will become a part of their sustainability programs and curricula. Existing courses such as AP Environmental Science and AP Physics will be able to draw examples and data from it's own in-house energy production system. The school will also host an art competition for students to design a large sign commemorating Blue Sky and the solar project. Blue Sky was integral in helping St. Mary's complete their goal of going green on the school's campus.
Installation is scheduled for this summer, and should be ready for the outset of the 2014-15 school year.
