Ashland Preparing For Drought

By Jim McCoy Mon 5th May Newswater supply
Ashland officials say they're preparing for drought conditions this summer and will likely curtail water supplies as early as June 1. The city says it is taking steps to reduce water use over the next several months, including not planting trees, shrubs or annuals. It'll also delay watering on city-owned property for as long as possible. After a wet September, most of Oregon suffered through a dry winter. The U.S. Drought Monitor showed extreme drought across the southern half of the state. The Daily Tidings (http://is.gd/bCi901) reports the city last curtailed water during the drought of 2009. City Administrator Dave Kanner says this month's snowpack, which is the major source of water, is very low at only 9 inches.
