Police Nab Alleged Purse Snatcher

By Jim McCoy Mon 30th June NewsBurglaryRyan Kain Smythers
A Medford man seen rifling through a purse and tossing it aside while riding a skateboard down the street was arrested by Medford police on burglary charges. A witness reported seeing 27-year old Ryan Kain Smythers headed in the direction of the North Medford Fred Meyer store. When they found him inside the store, Smythers had a shopping cart full of merchandise, presumably to buy them with a stolen credit card. He was uncooperative and struggled with police, who ultimately subdued Smythers and arrested him. The purse belonged to a 78-year old woman who was not even aware that her purse had been stolen from her home. She was in the back yard at the time her home was allegedly broken into, and it is believed Smythers snuck in the house and grabbed the purse off of the victim’s dining room table.
