Wanting to call attention to the importance of pollination, Talent is the second community in the country to designate itself as “Bee City USA.” Asheville, North Carolina was the first to do so. The idea was brought forward by Talent beekeeper Dolly Warden. A part of that will be making the town more “pollinator friendly” with such things as planting pesticide-free trees, shrubs and perennials Mayor Bill Cecil says it will have a positive effect on protecting bees, butterflies and other pollinators for years to come. He further adds that doing so also “ties in with Talent’s agricultural history.”
