Economy and child abuse cases linked

By Steve Best Wed 21st September News

Health officials say a recent study says that dramatic increases in unemployment rates can be linked to an increase in instances of child abuse.

Research found a 65 percent increase in abuse cases during the recession. Each year an estimated 1200 to 1400 children in the United States are killed or injured by shaking.

The Children’s Advocacy Center says in 2010 in the Rogue Valley, 5 cases of abusive head trauma were reported in children, four of which were under the age of 1.
