Walden: On Timber and Presidential Election

By Steve Johnson Mon 2nd April News

Oregon counties might be seeing some economic relief with progress being made on allowing timber cutting in the state.  Congressman Greg Walden says he’s hoping a vote on allowing timber harvesting on federal land will be made this month or in early may.  The plan would result in a trust on 3 million acres of federal land to allow logging and help replace the federal timber subsidies congress canceled in 2007.
On another issue, the Republican congressman told theDove news that it’s time for the Republican party to unify behind a candidate for the presidential election.   Walden endorsed Mitt Romney back in September and says it’s important a decision on a candidate is made before the party’s presidential convention when heading into the general election in November.
