Emergency officials are warning that a test Wednesday morning of the new National Emergency Alert System might look and sound different than previous tests, but no one should call 9-1-1. Steve Best has more…

The first nationwide test of the system will be carried out at 11 a.m. Wednesday by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Communications Commission and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The alert will be broadcast on radio, television and cable across all states and U.S. territories, and will commence with the message ‘this is a test”. Unlike previous alert tests, it may last 30 seconds.

the National Emergency Alert System is designed to allow the president to address the American public during extreme emergencies.
