Harry & David announce encouraging holiday period sales

After filing for bankruptcy last year, it seems as if gourmet gift company Harry & David has had something to smile about this Christmas. Steve Best has more….


Harry and David says their sales over the holiday season were better than projected.

Although the company is not yet releasing sales figures, spokeswoman Rhonda Klug said that given the tough economy, they were pleased with the turn out.
 
Harry & David filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2011.

The Medford-based retailer emerged from bankruptcy, but not before closing 50 stores and handing a pension plan covering around 2,700 current and former employees over to a federal agency to manage.

They announced in December that they had hired a new Chief Financial Officer
