Medford budget cuts hit local nonprofits

Budget cuts have forced Medford City Council to reluctantly cut funding to a number of local nonprofits this fall, and some have been harder hit than others. Steve Best has the details…

Council members expressed regret that funding for nonprofit agencies had to be cut this year due to what they call a severe reduction in funds.

A total of 31 grant applications were reviewed this year. allocations were made to 26 of them, but most – including hunger relief agency ACCESS – received considerably less than they had requested.

The Medford-based Center for Nonprofit Legal Services have had $22,000 cut from their budget annually, and Executive Director Debra Lee says they will struggle to offer services. She says Medford will not have a legal safety net for its residents
