Two Southern Oregon University students   - one, a former North Medford High School graduate - will get the chance to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York next month. Steve Best explains why…

When Beatriz Abella and Mandee Light submitted an audition tape in October for an international music talent competition, they weren’t expecting much.

However, little more than a week later they were informed that they were among 34 winners chosen to perform at the famed Big Apple venue on December 18th.

The pair, who call themselves “Duo SOU” were the only American winners to make it to the final, where they will be performing a duet together.

Abella is originally from Juneau, Alsaka, while Light graduated from North Medford High in 2009, and has been heavily involved with the Rogue Valley Opera.
