The public may soon have President Obama to thank for increased ownership of the Table Rocks. Steve Best has more…

The U.S. Department of the Interior recently announced that both Upper and Lower Table Rocks are among the top 101 conservation sites in President Obama’s “America’s Great Outdoors” initiative.

Locally, this will provide funding to allow the Bureau of Land Management to purchase around 800 acres of land on the rocks, to add to the near 13-hundred acres the BLM already owns there.

For 25 years, the BLM and the nonprofit “Nature Conservancy” have provided guided tours on the Table Rocks in spring and summer, attracting some 45,000 visitors annually.
