A rail line that once provided service from Weed to Eugene could be re-opened under plans now being developed by several interested organizations. Steve Best has details….

The Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad, now owned by RailAmerica currently operates lines from Eugene to Black Butte, California, and from Eugene to Coquille. but services over the Siskiyou Summit ceased in 2008.

“CORP” has recently shown more interest in reviving the line, and talks have been taking place with the Coos-Siskiyou Shippers Coalition about this for some time.

Before any re-opening can take place, repairs totaling around $4 million would need to be funded and carried out on tunnels, tracks and ties, including tunnel improvements between Grants Pass and Roseburg.
