The University of Oregon has set itself an interesting energy efficiency goal. Steve Best explains.

The goal is for the University to build out its campus without expanding energy use. This means no net increase in the amount of power for future campus buildings and grounds.

All new buildings will have to meet higher energy efficiency requirements, at least 35% more efficient than required under state building codes, and the cost of new construction will include helping to pay for efficiency retrofits for older buildings.

Meeting the goal could cost as much as $10 million dollars over the next ten years.
