Andy Murray, the defending champion at Wimbledon, won his opening match today in the 2014 tournament. Also winning was top-seed Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich), while in women's play second-seed Li Na (lee nah) won, as did No. 30 Venus Williams. Fellow American Sloane Stephens, the 18th-seed, was a loser in her first match. UNDATED (AP) - At the World Cup today, defending champion Spain salvaged some World Cup pride with a 3-0 victory over Australia in its last match at the tournament. And the Netherlands finished Group B play with a record of 3-0 after a 2-0 win over Chile. OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The College World Series gets going tonight in Omaha, Nebraska, with the first game of the best-of-three series. Playing for the title this year are the Virginia Cavaliers and the Vanderbilt Commodores. VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - The Vancouver Canucks have a new coach. They have gone to the minor leagues and hired Willie Desjardins (day-zhar-DANS'). He replaces the fired John Tortorella (tohr-tohr-EHL'-uh), who was canned after coaching the Canucks for one year.
