March 4 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

In celebration of Women’s History month, a short collection from the more than 3,000 episodes of the
JPR daily historical radio vignettes “As It Was: Tales from the State of Jefferson” will be read by Shirley
Patton Amy Blossom. Each story features women from the Rogue Valley, their experiences, and their impact
on the valley. The popular As it Was series is a collaboration between the Southern Oregon Historical Society
and JPR, featuring the history of Southern Oregon and Northern California.
Shirley has been narrating “As It Was” stories since 2005, taking over after Hank Henry retired from the
series. She is in her 75th year of acting, although no longer with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) where
she acted for 30 seasons and played more than 50 roles. Since leaving OSF, she has performed with numerous
local theater companies and on many local stages. Amy moved to the valley in 1985 and wore many hats for
the Jackson County Library System, though her favorite was working at the Ashland Library. She is honored
to be alongside one of her heroes, Shirley Patton, for this presentation.

The monthly “Windows in Time” lunchtime lectures are offered free to the public on the first and
second Wednesday throughout the year from 12 noon–1:00 p.m. The Southern Oregon Historical Society and
Jackson County Library Services co-sponsor the lecture series. For more information, please contact the
Southern Oregon Historical Society at (541) 773-6536 or or Jackson County Library Services at 541-
