Quilt & Genealogy Talk: Hand Embroidered Blocks from Illinois

April 23 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

Quilts are not “just quilts”! Many are family heirlooms passed on from one generation to the next – and each has their own unique history. At the April Quilt and Genealogy talk, guest speakers Peggy Smith and Charlotte Wirfs will discuss how pieces from by-gone eras can be finished into beautiful heirlooms.

Peggy and her mother, Rachel Viola Fleener Smith, were given an un-quilted top along with several unassembled blocks from the same block exchange, which Peggy later set into two hand-quilted quilts. Through personal knowledge and genealogical searches, the mother-daughter team learned the blocks were made in the 1940s by a group of friends from the Church of Christ in Hammond, Illinois.

At the April 23 quilt talk, Peggy will tell “the rest of the story” !

Quilt and Genealogy Talks are free to everyone! April 23, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Jackson County Genealogy Library, 3405 S. Pacific Hwy, Medford. To register call 541-512-2340, email reception.JCGL@gmail.com, or stop by the Library.
