THE HISTORIC HOLMES HOUSE: FROM HARRY & DAVID TO THE PRESENT

April 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Originally built in 1939, the home of Harry Holmes, of Harry & David, was recently recreated and renovated into a 12-bed residential hospice care facility. Susan Hearn presents the history of the home with “The Historic Holmes House: From Harry and David to the Present” on Wednesday, April 3 at the Medford Library, 205 South Central Avenue, and Wednesday, April 10 at the Ashland Library, 410 Siskiyou Boulevard from 12 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at both locations.

The Holmes House was built for Harry and Eleanor Holmes in Old East Medford in 1939, before the US entered World War II. They selected the famous first African American architect Paul R. Williams, architect to the stars in old Hollywood, to design their home on the 20-acre parcel, now the public Holmes Park.

Learn what stories lay within the 80-year-old, 7,400-square-foot original mansion, its extraordinary features, and how the design of architectural genius Paul Williams now serves the unique needs of its current occupants, hospice residents, and their loved ones
