Ashland Council Seeks Organic Protection
The Ashland City Council voted Tuesday night to ask Jackson County commissioners to protect organic farming in the county from genetically modified crops. Organic farmers said their crops could be contaminated by pollen drifting from fields of crops that have been genetically modified to repel insects or withstand weed killers.
The Mail Tribune reports a Jackson County committee is considering an ordinance that would ban genetically modified seeds in the county.
